Lightweight fly fishing for roach can be a lot of fun. In warm weather they'll come up to grab insects from the surface, the take could be mistaken for a brownie...
You can fish for roach all year round, but the warm and cold weather fishing will differ. In warm weather they will come up to take insects from the surface, whereas in cold weather they'll be down deep sitting near the bottom. You can then still target them by using a nymph and a sinking line. They're almost always in a shoal, so if you catch one it's very likely that more will follow.
