Germany 🇩🇪 Wiesent
Ample opportunities for all levels to catch trout and grayling
Fly Fishing at Hammermühle
Hammermühle is well-known for its fly fishing, as is the Wiesent, a river renowned across Europe for its excellent trout and ash populations. The Wiesent, a picturesque karst river, gracefully winds its way through the Franconian Jura.
The magic of the May Fly season
The May fly season is nothing short of legendary. During this period, there is a seemingly endless hatching of May flies, an event that lures the largest of trout to the river's surface. The well-respected fly fisherman and hotelier, Charles Ritz, was known to appreciate the unique advantages offered by the Wiesent and spent time fishing here.
Our offering for guests
We provide our guests with the chance to engage in thrilling fly fishing activities, using dry flies, wet flies, and nymphs to catch trout and grayling. We have several routes available for this purpose, some of which are exclusively reserved for guests staying at the house. These routes are generally easily accessible and simple to navigate, making the experience enjoyable for both novices and experts alike.
Tips
For fly fishing at this location, a standard class 4-5 fly rod with a length of 9ft serves you well. We recommend a leader length of 9ft and a tippet no less than 0.14mm, as you may encounter strong, fighting fish. While wading in the water is not allowed, rubber boots are advisable.
Certain fly patterns often yield promising results:
Yellow Partridge and Gosling, particularly during the May flight season
Red Tag or Witch
Pharmacist fly
Emerger patterns
During autumn's grayling season, small and smallest nymph patterns
