Lefty's Deceiver
Generic and effective streamer pattern, designed for saltwater and freshwater, used for targeting predatory fish.
How it's tied
The Lefty's Deceiver is tied using a long shank hook and a combination of materials to create a lifelike, enticing profile. The body is typically formed from bucktail, tied in small clumps and layered along the hook shank to create a tapered shape. The wing is made from additional bucktail or synthetic fibers, often incorporating flash materials for added attraction. Eyes can be added using epoxy or stick-on options, providing a more realistic look.
It's design comes from the legendary Lefty Kreh, of which you can write a short history here.
What it mimics
The Lefty's Deceiver is designed to imitate various baitfish, such as mullet, menhaden, or anchovies, as well as other prey like shrimp or squid. It's an effective and versatile pattern for targeting a range of fish species in both saltwater and freshwater.
Where it's used
The Lefty's Deceiver can be used in various water types, including saltwater flats, estuaries, rivers, lakes, and ponds. It will be mostly too large to use on streams. It is used to target any predatory fish, given it's size is often not too small or large. To fish the Lefty's Deceiver effectively, retrieve it with various speeds and lengths. This is very similar to fishing an EP streamer.
