The Turd
A fairly simple, dark nymph pattern designed to imitate stone flies.
How it's tied
The Turd is typically tied on a short-shank, heavy-wire hook, usually in sizes 12 to 16. The key to creating the rounded shape characteristic of snails is a dense dubbed body, generally made with olive, brown, or black dubbing. Rubber is mostly used for adding legs.
What it mimics
While it's a general pattern that mimics insects from multiple orders, the Turd is primarily designed to imitate stoneflies. Especially the darker colours make it mostly look like a stone fly.
Where it's used
The Turd i effective in all waters where you can find stone flies waters, such as lakes, ponds, and rivers. It's an excellent choice for targeting bottom-feeding species.
The Turd is usually fished on the bottom, either under an indicator or on a Euro-nymphing rig. It can also be effective when fished in combination with other nymph patterns, forming a part of a multi-fly rig.
