Lady Bug

Lady Bug

A charming pattern that mimics the well-known garden insect.

How it's tied
The Lady Bug fly is typically tied on a small hook, usually in sizes 14 to 18. The body is often created from black and red foam to replicate the ladybug's distinctive shape and coloration.

After the foam is secured to the hook, it's then carefully cut and shaped to form the rounded body and partitioned wings of a ladybug. Small black dots can be added to the red wing covers for an extra touch of realism.

While the Lady Bug fly may require some precision in cutting and shaping the foam, its construction is fairly straightforward, making it a fun and accessible project for tiers of all skill levels.

What it mimics
As its name suggests, the Lady Bug fly is designed to mimic a ladybug. These tiny beetles are common around bodies of water, especially during the warmer months, and can occasionally end up on the water's surface, becoming an easy meal for a hungry fish.

Where it's used
The Lady Bug fly is especially effective in still waters, such as ponds and slow-moving streams, where its distinctive profile can be easily seen by fish.

What is Lorem Ipsum? Lorem Ipsum is simply dummy text of the printing and typesetting industry. Lorem Ipsum has been the industry's standard dummy text ever since the 1500s, when an unknown printer took a galley of type and scrambled it to make a type specimen book. It has survived not only five centuries, but also the leap into electronic typesetting, remaining essentially unchanged. It was popularised in the 1960s with the release of Letraset sheets containing Lorem Ipsum passages, and more recently with desktop publishing software like Aldus PageMaker including versions of Lorem Ipsum. Why do we use it? It is a long established fact that a reader will be distracted by the readable content of a page when looking at its layout. The point of using Lorem Ipsum is that it has a more-or-less normal distribution of letters, as opposed to using 'Content here, content here', making it look like readable English. Many desktop publishing packages and web page editors now use Lorem Ipsum as their default model text, and a search for 'lorem ipsum' will uncover many web sites still in their infancy. Various versions have evolved over the years, sometimes by accident, sometimes on purpose (injected humour and the like).
